Who We Are
Kane is a 7 year old American Bull Dog/American Staffordshire Terrier mix. He was rescued from Mount Vernon Animal Shelter in Mount Vernon New York. Tess was a mix of something-or-other with pretty big ears. She was rescued from Thomas J. O'Connor Animal Shelter in Springfield, MA. Tess living with mast cell tumors since 2011 until her passing August of 2015. When Tess was diagnosed with cancer, Kim refinanced her house to afford the monthly vet bill. This situation got Kim to thinking - what about people who can't afford to feed their dogs and provide other basic care?
Kim founded Kane's Krusade in 2011. Passionate about animals from a young age, she has a special place in her heart for Misunderstood dogs, especially pit bull dogs.
When Kim's dog Tess was diagnosed with cancer, this provided inspiration for her to start Kane's Krusade to help families in need take care of their dogs in difficult economic times.
In her other life, Kim is a bestselling author and business strategist.
Hannah is the Animal Control Supervisor at the Thomas J. O'Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center in Springfield MA. She first became involved with Kane's Krusade while working as an Animal Control Officer at TJO. We are very fortunate to partner with such wonderful animal control advocates and receive many of our Kondo referrals from them. Hannah has worked with a variety of animals from alligators to livestock and has a deep interest in improving the quality of life for captive animals as well as strengthening the bond between owners and their 4-legged companions.
Paul is the compliance manager for TenantTracks, offering best in class background checks for the rental housing community. Paul heads up our Tenant Advocacy efforts - advocating and advising families with tenant/dog issues and helping to connect families to dog-friendly housing. Paul adopted two Kane's dogs - Bubba and Nova - when they needed to be re-homed.
Jim's love and compassion for dogs is strong. He was a key board member in the early development and growth of our organization. In addition to his work with Kane's Krusade, Jim was a volunteer at Thomas J. O'Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center.
Dr. Hersman acts as an advisor to the board in terms of of any veterinary and treatment questions. East Springfield Veterinary Hospital is a valued partner to our organization. Dr. Hersman began his career in the field of environmental engineering. After five years in the industry, he realized that his true passion was in veterinary medicine. He graduated from Tufts School of Veterinary Medicine in May 2004 and finished an internship program at Ocean State Veterinary Specialists in East Greenwich, RI. The internship provided an education on the latest treatment, surgical, and diagnostic option in veterinary medicine, with a concentrated effort in emergency and critical care.
